Cultural Caravan Productions African American Cultural Literacy Tours

One of the missions of Cultural Caravan Productions, Inc. is to provide opportunities for greater community awareness of the contributions of African Americans to our society. In addition, we want to build bridges of cross cultural understanding amongst the diverse groups that make up our city as well as the broader society. Beginning in spring 2010, we will proudly offer a series of cultural literacy tours which will provide an opportunity for you and your family to explore the African American historical experience in New York. The tours/field trips feature various historical sites within the five boroughs and Upstate New York. The packages are as follows:

2010 Field Trips Packages

Cultural Caravan invites you join us on an African history in America expedition in Washington DC. See attached flyer for details. Discover the hidden secrets of the Nation's Capital on this specially designed field trip. You will see evidence of ancient Egyptian Architecture, Symbolism and Philosophy that have been embedded in various monuments throughout the city literally hidden in plain sight.   7. The African Symbolism on The Library of Congress

Black History in New York

Field Trip 1: (All day) Package I includes:

  1. Continental Breakfast/Overview at Cultural Institution
  2. Visit to Queens Farm Museum- Queens
  3. Visit Lewis Latimer House/Museum (Inventor/Electrical Engineer/Artist)- Queens
  4. Visit to Weeksville Heritage Center (African American settlement) –Brooklyn
  5. Visit African Burial Ground Memorial Site- Lower Manhattan
  6. Visit Sandy Ground Historical Society- Staten Island
  7. Return to departure location

Field Trip 2: (All Day) Package II includes:

  1. Tour of Harlem Historical Sites & Cultural Institutions
  2. Tour of Bronx NY Historical Sites
  3. Lunch stop
    • Each package includes continental breakfast & box lunch
    • The group will meet and return from the same location
    • Fee includes round trip coach and admission to sites
    • Trips run from 8am to 6pm

Field Trip III: Harriet Tubman Memorial Freedom Ride - Auburn NY (Upstate)

  1. Tour of Harriet Tubman Home & Complex (Harriet Tubman was a renaissance woman of her time. Not only was she a hero for her people, but she was also a humanitarian and business woman)
  2. Tour of Seward House (Friend of Tubman/Underground Railroad site, Abolitionist, States Man)

Tour package includes round trip coach, continental breakfast, and box lunch (optional).
